Frequently Asked Questions

How do I learn to design for a 3D Printer?

It’s free and easy to get started! You will need a CAD program. Sign up for Tinkercad as an educator. Create an account and start designing right away. You’ll be amazed at how simple the software is to get started. It’s cloud-based so it will work on any platform including chromebooks. No downloading required. This is the first step.

We have a limited budget. How can we access technology for students?

Contact us at Programs@NewTechNow.org to schedule an appointment to have the New Tech Now STE²AM Engine Mobile Makerspace visit your organization. It’s affordable and convenient. We supply all the materials, training, and equipment.

We want to build our own in-house makerspace. What types of equipment do we need?

Super! We love to help organizations with setting up their own maker space workshop. You can start by contacting us at Programs@newtechnow.org. We are happy to give you ideas and suggestions for where to start. Or schedule a  STE²AM Engine Mobile Makerspace visit to see for yourself.

What does CAD stand for?

CAD stands for Computer-Aided Design. It’s easy to start designing with Tinkercad -a free, easy-to-use app for 3D design, electronics, and coding. It’s used by teachers, kids, hobbyists, and designers to imagine, design, and make anything!  If you need a project Click Here for our free design lesson.

Once you have a CAD design you will need slicing software to prepare your files for printing. Please visit this resources page to learn more.

What ages do you serve?

We serve all ages. It’s best to have students access the technology at an early age. We have worked with students as young as 5 years old. That’s not to say that you can’t learn about new technology at any age. We serve veterans and seniors too!

Where does the STE²AM Engine Mobile Makerspace travel to?

We are mobile so we have a broad reach. Currently, the STE²AM Engine Mobile Makerspace is available in Florida for Summer 2021. Maine locations coming soon.
